  • Community.

Back in 2014,when we opened our business, we chose Chamblee because of the vibrant and diverse community of our neighborhood. We are so glad we did. From the beginning, our neighbors were our customers, and as time went on, we began to become a part of that lovely Chamblee community. During the pandemic,we closed our brick & mortar and went online. Thankfully, people still supported us by sharing posts, and yes, shopping. However, I missed seeing people daily and the interactions with "Gorgeous Friends." The postal carrier, people browsing, chatting and ,hearing the happenings about town. Since leaving Chamblee and moving to Massachusetts, much has changed. Like learning about snow, snowplows, ice fishing, bears and ice fog. (to name a few) In June 2025, I began participating in Markets. And they are GLORIOUS! Berkshire Pittsfield Pride in the rain, and North Adams Pride on a very windy evening. Both of these shows were wonderful! Talking with people again and having them respond enthusiastically to our curated collection of merchandise was very gratifying. Bonus! I met Jesse, Maker of Virgins on Fire Candle, in North Adams in real life. (we had chatted for years through instagram.) Since then, I joined Common Folk Art Collective and have been participating in Makers on Main outdoor and indoor Markets. I volunteer at the Senior Center, at a thrift shop, and with the Berkshire Democratic Brigades. It has been excellent to learn more about The Berkshires and begin to become a part of a new community. Last week, I went to a Protest Open Mic night to hear a new friend read her poem. I was surprised to discover that a neighbor was reading his poetry as well. People played their guitars and sang as part of the evening. When I realized I knew 2 people at this event, I paused, took it in and felt at home. Thank you to each Gorgeous Friend in Chamblee, The Berkshires and in our online community. Like the above greeting card says,"It takes a village I'm so thankful you're part of mine." Thank you, Kim

  • A Christmas Eve Memory

When I was about 10 years old,I remember having trouble sleeping because I was so excited about Santa Claus and the reindeer. Since I was 10 years old,I did try to convince myself that it was just pretend. However,I stayed up late listening on Christmas Eve...I was incredibly thrilled to actually hear bells and reindeer hooves. Yes, I was 10, but I always believed in magic. Once I heard the sleigh bells,I did decide to fall asleep...so Christmas morning would arrive sooner. Flash forward to a recent conversation with my younger sister about this particular Christmas eve. My sister recalled that she had a stomach ache,so went downstairs to tell our parents. Imagine her surprise when she saw our Mom & Dad wrapping presents. They quickly told her that they "were Santa's helpers." She kind of believed them and went back to bed. She told me that a little while after she had seen our parents...she heard bells and reindeer hooves on our roof. So,she too,was reassured and fell asleep. She and I had never discussed this before. She then told me that she was convinced it was our Dad up on the roof creating the magic for us. It made sense actually. Our Dad was jewish and our Mom is southern baptist. The 2 of them did an excellent job of raising us with respect for other people's religious beliefs. They took us to a variety of churches and synagogues so we could experience other faiths. Our Dad loved to celebrate Christmas with us. Our Mom loved to celebrate Hanukkah with us. I agree with my sister that he went on the roof to make sure that my sister and I were able to continue to enjoy the magic of Christmas. It was such a wonderful memory to share with my sister. Wishing each of you the wonder of magical possibilities on this Christmas Eve and always.

  • Thinking of You Week:

September 15-21 is Thinking of You Week. The #thinkingofyouweekchallenge is to send 7 cards to 7 people in 7 days. Sending mail and hopefully receiving some mail is a beautiful idea. Connecting with each other thru cards and letters is an excellent mission. I recently read Lady Susan by Jane Austen and the whole story is told thru letters between the characters. It is a fascinating literary style. Here are 4 greeting card possibilities. 3 more coming (as soon as I figure out this blog layout:) Best,Kim By Colleen Harrington Studio By Lucy Loves Paper

  • Greetings Gorgeous Friends:

For a shop that is called "Hello Gorgeous Boutique",it may sound obvious that I think greeting people is important. Things are very intense right now in the world. As the seasons are slowly shifting from summer to fall...I notice some things: Static Electricity at the grocery store. My skin is getting drier. Today I also noticed, people being kind. My neighbor across the street said hello. My next door neighbor waved at me from her car. A man in the grocery store smiled at me and navigated his grocery carriage-(cart/buggy)carefully in the aisle. A younger sibling found the soda his older sibling wanted. The cashier was welcoming, friendly, helpful, thoughtful and kind. So kind, that I was too surprised, and honestly, too emotional to let the manager know. (But I will) These seemingly small gestures are incredibly big and amazingly essential for a community to thrive. These small gestures also make a person feel seen and part of a community, which is surprisingly affirming. Thank you to each of these people in my community for their kindness today. I am so grateful for my time in Chamblee at the brick and mortar where I felt so much a part of the community. I am happy to say that I think I am beginning to feel part of this community in Massachusetts, and I am grateful. As the season changes from summer to fall,I hope we can be kind to the people in our communities. I think it will make a difference. Thank you for your support of my small business and for reading the blog. Wishing you a wonderful weekend, -Kim

  • Thank you Jane Austen:

Jane Austen wrote wonderful books that I read over and over again. I also watch various movie versions as well. Austen is well known for Elizabeth Bennet and Mr.Darcy of "Pride and Prejudice" and their complicated love story. Recently, I read 3 other Austen books;"Lady Susan", "The Watsons", and "Sanditon" These stories reminded me again of Austen's perceptive social commentary, imperfect characters, and her strong female protagonists. When I discovered Colleen Harrington's Austen inspired artwork, I knew I had to add the stickers, magnets, tea towel, and greeting cards to Hello Gorgeous. Harrington's artwork combined with a few of Austen's quotes is an excellent match. Enjoy a peek at these 3 examples. Discover the rest of her Austen inspired work as well as her Vintage style cards and Tudor inspired art/greeting cards at HGBGA.com Best, Kim

Bonus: the magnets made me laugh. So here you are,for your late night shopping & laughter,(a few of the new magnets by Ephemera.) $5.00 each & Free Nationwide Shipping. Thank you Gorgeous Friends, Best,Kim

  • Pop,pop,fizz,fizz...

I was singing this old ad to my grandchild today over breakfast. It is an oldie, but a goodie...can you finish this ad campaign? New arrivals are now on the website which draw their inspiration from pop culture, and yes,politics... Oddly, they are a bit of a relief. Cause humor. Humor is a relief. Laughter feels very good lately. I began re-watching Schitt's Creek tonight, and it made me laugh. Here are two of the new arrivals from Katie at Mango Illustrated in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an old favorite from Tay Ham of Wilmington,NC. I am beginning this new week with some laughter, and strength. I think this is a good combination. Keep going Gorgeous Friends. Best, Kim

  • Soothing summer moments:

One of the pros of having this small gift business is the way that certain items have the power to soothe me. I curate work by the "Nice People Who Make Cool Stuff." A bonus of this cool stuff is seeing it in my "warehouse/office" space whenever I like. Coincidentally, I have been noticing in my neighborhood; bunnies that hop silently on lawns, yards, and pretty much anywhere they like. They are quite stealthy, kinda like this bunny by Ash & Chess. The other wee critter is the "Whistlepig" or as it is more commonly known, Groundhog. They appear on neighbors lawns quietly eating grass and then popping up, as if to say,"What's Up?" like this card by Smudgeink. Here in The Berkshires, we are surrounded by mountains, forest, lakes & starry skies. Carrie of Snail Mail hand painted the "You Will Move Mountains" card. The above greeting card. " Care Instructions", by Kwohtations always reminds me to "Be gentle with yourself. For best results, feel things deeply." I wish you moments of peace and joy this summer. Be nice to yourself and each other. Best, Kim
